Montverde Academy boys basketball closed out the 2026 Nike EYBL Scholastic Hoop Hall Classic in impressive fashion, defeating Long Island Lutheran 71-58 on Sunday in the third and final day of the nationally renowned event.
The Eagles delivered one of their most complete performances of the season, with all five starters scoring in double figures and Montverde Academy pulling away in the second half to secure its second win of the weekend.
Dhani Miller led the balanced attack with 17 points and seven rebounds, while Javion Tyndale stuffed the stat sheet with 16 points, eight assists and three steals. Oneal Delancy added 14 points, Joe Philon III chipped in 12 points and three assists, and Derek Daniels finished with 10 points, eight rebounds and three blocked shots.
Montverde Academy was highly efficient offensively, shooting 53 percent from the field (26-for-49) and knocking down 47 percent of its three-point attempts (7-for-15).
The game was tightly contested throughout the first half, with neither team able to gain separation. The Eagles carried a slim 33-29 advantage into halftime after trading baskets for much of the opening 16 minutes.
The third quarter followed a similar script early, but Montverde Academy seized control in the final moments of the period. Clinging to a 41-39 lead with just over three minutes remaining in the quarter, the Eagles erupted on a decisive 14-4 run to close the frame, extending the margin to 55-43.
That momentum carried into the fourth quarter, as Montverde Academy opened the final period on an 8-2 run to cap a 22-6 stretch overall. The surge pushed the lead to 63-45 with just over five minutes to play, effectively sealing the victory.
With the win, Montverde Academy improves to 9-5 overall and 3-3 in Nike EYBL Scholastic play, finishing the Hoop Hall Classic with two wins in three games.
The Eagles return to action next Saturday, January 24, when they face Sunrise Christian at the Air Capital Hoopfest in Wichita, Kansas. Tipoff is scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
