The Montverde Academy boys basketball team closed out the Air Capital Hoopfest in strong fashion on Sunday, rolling to an 81-55 victory over Veritas Prep to cap the weekend in Wichita, Kansas.
With the win, MVAÂ improves to 11-5 overall and 5-3 in Nike EYBL Scholastic play.
MVA led most of the way using efficient offense aon both ends of the floor to build and maintain a comfortable lead for most of the game.
Javion Tyndale delivered one of his best all-around performances of the season, finishing with nine points, eight rebounds, and a season-high 14 assists. His assist total was just one shy of the Nike EYBL Scholastic all-time record, as he orchestrated the offense and kept teammates involved all afternoon.
Joe Philon III led the Eagles in scoring with 18 points, while Derek Daniels recorded a double-double with 17 points and a team-high 10 rebounds. Daniels was nearly perfect from the floor, shooting 6-for-7 in the win. He finished the weekend an impressive 13-for-14 from the field after going 7-for-7 in Saturday night's victory over Sunrise Christian.
Oneal Delancy added 17 points as Montverde Academy placed four players in double figures and showcased its balanced scoring attack.
The Eagles were highly efficient offensively, shooting 55 percent from the field (27-for-49) and 45 percent from three-point range (10-for-22). MVAÂ also dominated key hustle categories, holding a 23-10 advantage in fast break points and a 32-16 edge in second-chance points.
MVA now turns its attention to the 23rd Montverde Academy Invitational Tournament (MAIT), which will be hosted on campus from Thursday, January 29 through Saturday, January 31. The Eagles will open the tournament against Northside Christian on Thursday at 7:00 p.m.
