Montverde Academy boys basketball continued its strong late-season surge on Saturday afternoon, defeating The St. James Academy 63-54 on day one of the Christ School event in Arden, North Carolina.
Montverde Academy controlled the game from start to finish, setting the tone early with a 14-9 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Eagles extended their advantage to 33-23 at halftime and never allowed The St. James Academy to seriously threaten in the second half.
Dhani Miller led the way with a dominant double-double, pouring in 18 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Javion Tyndale added 16 points and six assists, helping orchestrate the offense throughout the afternoon. Oneal Delancy contributed 10 points, eight rebounds, and four assists in a well-rounded effort.
Joe Philon III made his presence felt on both ends of the floor with nine points and five blocked shots, while Derek Daniels added eight points, nine rebounds, and three blocks. Montverde Academy owned the interior, holding a 46-32 advantage in points in the paint.
With the win, Montverde Academy improves to 19-5 overall and 9-3 in Nike EYBL Scholastic play. The Eagles have now won 11 straight games and 19 of their last 21, continuing to build momentum as the postseason approaches.
Montverde Academy returns to the court Sunday at 2:00 p.m. against host Christ School.
