Montverde, Fla. (March 10, 2026) –Montverde Academy has announced that Jacob Martinez of the boys' weightlifting team has been named the Montverde Academy Student-Athlete of the Week after an outstanding performance in the Eagles' meet against Windermere Prep last Wednesday.
Competing in the 119-pound weight class, Martinez delivered a dominant showing by winning both the Traditional and Olympic disciplines as Montverde Academy defeated Windermere Prep in both of them.
Martinez set personal bests in all three of his lifts during the meet. In the snatch, he lifted 95 pounds, setting not only a personal best but also establishing a Montverde Academy record for the heaviest snatch lift in the 119-pound weight class. He also recorded personal bests in bench press (120 pounds) and clean & jerk (120 pounds).
His lifts resulted in an Olympic total of 215 pounds (snatch plus clean & jerk) and a Traditional total of 240 pounds (bench plus clean & jerk).
A ninth-grade student at Montverde Academy, Martinez cites math as his favorite subject and plans to take business classes in the future. Looking ahead, he hopes to own his own business.
Martinez's performance helped lead the Eagles to a successful team result and highlights a promising future for the young lifter and the Montverde Academy weightlifting program who have won three of four dual meets and finished first in its only multiple team meets this season.
Martinez and the rest of the boys weightlifting team returns to action for its final regular season meet before the district meet with a dual meet at Foundation Academy this Wednesday at 4:00 pm.
