Softball Overcomes First Inning Deficit to Win Exciting 6-5 Decision over Eustis

Montverde Academy softball delivered an exciting comeback victory on Friday evening, defeating Eustis High School 6-5 in a thrilling contest at the MVA Softball Complex.

The Eagles found themselves in an early hole as Eustis plated four runs in the top of the first inning to seize control. MVA, however, showed resilience throughout, chipping away inning by inning before ultimately taking the lead late.

MVA got on the board in the bottom of the third inning when Colby Reish legged out an infield single to score Carly Howard. Moments later, Addie Poe added a sacrifice fly to right field, bringing home Missy Odom and cutting the deficit in half.

The Eagles continued their push in the fourth inning. Odom delivered the biggest swing of the night—a towering two-run home run to center field that tied the game at 4-4 and energized the home crowd, which included several of her basketball teammates.

MVA carried that momentum into the fifth inning, where Cali Flowers launched a two-run home run of her own, scoring Poe and giving the Eagles the lead at 6-4.

Eustis refused to go quietly, adding a run in the top of the seventh to make it 6-5 and putting the tying run on third base. With the pressure mounting, the Eagles held firm, recording a groundout to third base to secure the exciting win.

Flowers led the way offensively, going 2-for-2 with a double, a home run, and two RBIs. Odom turned in a standout performance as well, finishing 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored, and two RBIs. Reish added a pair of hits and an RBI in the victory.

In the circle, Odom earned the win in relief, tossing 3.0 dominant innings without allowing a hit while striking out four. Nevaeh Williams started the game and returned in the seventh to close it out, earning the save. Williams totaled 4.0 innings, allowing five runs (two earned) on four hits while striking out five.

With the win, Montverde Academy improves to 9-2 on the season.

The Eagles return to action on Monday with a home matchup against Highland High School. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
