The Montverde Academy softball team continued its strong season on Monday evening, defeating Highland High School 11-1 in five innings at the MVA Softball Complex.
The Eagles set the tone early, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning to take control. Montverde Academy added two more runs in the second and one in the third to build a 5-0 lead through three innings.
Highland managed to get on the board in the top of the fourth, capitalizing on an unearned run to cut the deficit to 5-1. However, the Eagles quickly responded in dominant fashion, erupting for five runs in the bottom half of the inning to extend their lead to 10-1.
MVA closed out the game in the bottom of the fifth, plating one more run to secure the 10-run mercy rule victory.
The Eagles' offense was powered by several standout performances at the plate. Colby Reish went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs, while Addie Poe delivered a perfect night, going 2-for-2 with a double, a triple, a walk, two runs, and two RBIs. Carly Howard added a 2-for-3 performance with a run scored.
Nevaeh Williams contributed 1-for-3 with a triple and a team co-high three RBIs, while Kanora Diederichs made her hit count with a home run and three RBIs in a 1-for-3 outing.
Williams also shined in the circle, earning the win after pitching 4.0 innings and allowing just one unearned run on two hits while striking out eight. Elin Gunkel came on in relief and closed out the game with a scoreless fifth inning.
With the win, Montverde Academy improves to 11-2 on the season.
The Eagles return to action on Thursday, April 2, as they travel to Kissimmee to face Eau Gallie on day one of the Kissimmee Klassic. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
