The Montverde Academy softball team suffered its first loss of the season Friday evening, falling 5-1 on the road at Bartow High School. With the result, the Eagles move to 6-1 overall on the season.
Bartow set the tone early, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a quick 3-0 lead. The host Hornets added another run in the second inning to extend the advantage to 4-0 after two frames.
MVAÂ broke through in the top of the fourth inning when Missy Odom launched a solo home run to put the Eagles on the board and cut the deficit to 4-1. However, that would be the only run of the night for MVA, as the Eagles were limited to just two hits in the game.
Bartow answered with another run in the bottom of the fourth inning to account for the final 5-1 margin.
In addition to Odom's home run, Colby Reish recorded the only other hit for MVAÂ with a single.
Nevaeh Williams took the loss in the circle. Despite allowing five runs on eight hits, only one of the runs was earned. Williams also recorded seven strikeouts in the outing.
Montverde Academy will look to bounce back on Tuesday when the Eagles travel to face East River High School at 6:00 p.m.
