The Montverde Academy baseball team closed out its 2026 regular season with a 13-5 loss on the road against Lake Minneola High School on Friday afternoon. The Eagles finish the regular season with a strong 14-8 overall record heading into postseason play.
MVA got off to a fast start, plating three runs in the top of the first inning to take an early 3-0 lead. However, Lake Minneola responded immediately with four runs in the bottom half of the inning and added four more in the second to jump in front 8-3 after two innings.
The Eagles continued to battle, adding a run in the third, but the Hawks answered once again with three runs in the bottom of the inning to extend their lead to 11-4. Lake Minneola maintained control the rest of the way to secure the win.
Max Irving led the offensive effort for MVA, going a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with two runs scored and a solo home run. Odanyx Ofarril added a solid performance, finishing 2-for-4 with a run scored. Miguel Ramos and Andres Morillo each contributed with a double and an RBI.
On the mound, Alex Bello took the loss after allowing eight runs on 10 hits over two innings of work. Mauricio Zaa provided relief, pitching the final four innings and giving up five runs on five hits.
With the regular season complete, MVA now shifts its focus to the postseason. The Eagles have earned the No. 1 seed and a first-round bye in the district tournament. They will return to action on Thursday, April 16 at 6:00 PM, hosting the winner of Tuesday's play-in matchup between No. 4 seed Windermere Prep and No. 5 seed Cornerstone Charter Academy.
