Montverde Academy baseball is back on top of the district.

The Eagles captured the 2026 Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) Class 2A District 6 championship on Friday evening, defeating The First Academy, 7-5, at Francisco Lindor Field. The title marks MVA's first district championship since the 2023 season.

MVA wasted no time setting the tone, plating three runs in the bottom of the second inning to take an early 3-0 lead. The momentum shifted in the top of the third, however, as The First Academy responded with five runs to jump ahead 5-3.

The Eagles chipped away and then surged back in front.

MVA cut the deficit to one with a run in the bottom of the third before delivering the decisive blow an inning later. A three-run fourth inning flipped the game back in the Eagles' favor, giving them a 7-5 advantage they would not relinquish.

Mauricio Zaa led the offensive charge with a perfect night at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a double, a run scored, and three RBIs. Miguel Ramos added a strong performance, finishing 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored, while Brody Welborn contributed with a hit, a run, and an RBI. Odanyx Ofarril also drove in a run to aid the Eagles' attack.

On the mound, Alex Bello delivered a dominant relief outing to secure the win. Bello tossed the final 4.1 innings, allowing just two hits while striking out five and holding the Royals scoreless to close the door.

Sid Goecke got the start for MVA and was sharp early, keeping The First Academy off the scoreboard through the first two innings. He worked 2.2 innings, striking out three, before the Royals' five-run third inning forced a pitching change.

With the victory, MVA earns an automatic berth into the FHSAA Regional Tournament. The Eagles will learn their next opponent soon and are scheduled to play on either Friday, April 24 or Saturday, April 25, with game time to be announced.
