Montverde Academy softball came up just short in a 1-0, 10-inning battle at Parrish Community on Friday evening, falling in a hard-fought pitcher's duel that stretched deep into extra innings.
The Eagles were held to just one hit on the night, which came off the bat of Carly Howard in the top of the fifth inning. Despite limited offensive opportunities, MVA continued to battle and kept Parrish Community off the scoreboard as both teams failed to score through the first nine innings.
In the circle, Nevaeh Williams delivered a standout performance, keeping the Eagles in the game from start to finish. She worked 9.1 innings and allowed just one unearned run on three hits while striking out 15 batters in a dominant outing
Parrish Community finally broke through in the 10th inning to secure the narrow win. With the international tie breaker rule in effect, the runner advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt, then scored on a fielder's choice to end it.
With the result, MVA moves to 15-4 on the season and quickly turns the page to their next game on Monday at 6:00 p.m. against Cheverus at the MVA Softball Complex.
