The Montverde Academy baseball team earned a 10-9 victory over South Laurel High School on Friday afternoon at the USSSA Complex in Viera, Florida.
MVA controlled the game from the outset. After South Laurel took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, the Eagles responded immediately with four runs in the bottom half of the frame to take a 4-1 advantage. MVA maintained the lead throughout the contest, fending off multiple comeback attempts to earn the one-run win.
Offensively, Max Irving led the way, going 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Miguel Ramos matched that effort, finishing 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs of his own. Alex Bello also contributed, going 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI.
On the mound, Sid Goecke earned the win for the Eagles. He tossed 4.0 innings, allowing three runs (one earned) on two hits while striking out six.
MVA returns to action on Tuesday when it travels to Lake Minneola High School for a 7:00 p.m. first pitch.
