The Montverde Academy boys lacrosse team is set to begin postseason play as the Eagles compete in the upcoming Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) Class 1A District 5 tournament. MVA earned the No. 5 seed and will travel to face No. 4 seed Foundation Academy in the quarterfinal round on Thursday, April 9 at 6:30 p.m.
With a win on Thursday, MVA would advance to the semifinal round to face No. 1 seed Bishop Moore on Tuesday, April 14 at 7:00 p.m. A semifinal round victory would send the Eagles to the district championship game on Thursday, April 16, where they would face either No. 2 seed The First Academy, No. 3 seed Lake Highland Prep, No. 6 seed Innovation, or No. 7 seed Trinity Prep.
The Eagles enter the playoffs following a competitive regular season in which they posted a 6-12 record. Offensively, MVA has been led by Gavin Ionelli, who tallied a team-high 32 goals, followed by Tanner Moore with 28 and Blake Kuhn with 19. Kuhn also led the team in assists with 20, while Evan Flanagan added 12 and Nate Kuhn recorded 10. Flanagan has been a force across the field, collecting a team-best 91 groundballs, with Nate Diaz contributing 57.
Defensively, Angelo Ranaldi has anchored the Eagles in goal, recording 183 saves and posting a .546 save percentage on the season.
