The Montverde Academy baseball team suffered a tough 7-5 extra-inning loss to Bishop Moore Catholic on Thursday evening at Francisco Lindor Field, as the Hornets erased a late deficit to steal the win.
The Eagles appeared in control for much of the contest, building a 5-0 lead through four innings and carrying that advantage into the top of the seventh. However, Bishop Moore erupted for five runs in the seventh to even the score, then added two more in the eighth to complete the comeback.
MVA struck first in the bottom of the second inning. After Carlos Feliciano led off with a walk, Santi Marin brought him home with a sacrifice fly. Later in the inning, Michael Alicea delivered an RBI single to score Andres Morillo and extend the lead to 2-0.
The Eagles added another run in the third when Morillo doubled to plate Feliciano, marking his second run of the game. In the fourth, Max Irving came through with a two-run double to center field, driving in Brody Welborn and Alicea to push the advantage to 5-0.
Feliciano led the way offensively, going 2-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored. Morillo finished 2-for-4 with a double, one run, and one RBI, while Alicea reached base three times, going 1-for-1 with two walks, a run scored, and an RBI.
On the mound, Sid Goecke was sharp, tossing 5.0 shutout innings while allowing just two hits and striking out one. Raja Sandhu and Morillo handled the final three innings in relief, with Morillo taking the loss.
With the defeat, MVA falls to 14-7 on the season. The Eagles will look to bounce back quickly as they return to action on Friday afternoon in their 2026 regular season finale at Lake Minneola High School. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
