Montverde Academy Swimmer Joao Diniz (junior) gave a historical performance at the Brazilian Youth Swimming Nationals in the city of Porto Alegre, Brazil on December 15-16. Competing for his hometown team "Minas Tenis Clube", Diniz finished in third place in the 400 Individual Medley (IM) earning a medal in a Brazilian National swim competition which has never been done in the history of the program. He also recorded five personal best times out of the six races he competed in.

"This was his main swim meet of the semester," said Head Swim Coach Guilherme Ferreira. "He was committed to his hometown team to participate and gave his best personal performance."

Diniz had a great season with the MVA varsity swim team and received many accolades. One of his biggest accomplishments was winning the 2018-2019 Regional title for the 200 IM and participating in his first State Championships. At States, Diniz finished fifth with the 400 free relay team and helped propel the boys to place in the top ten at states.

"Joao has a big talent for long distance events. Besides that, he very much dislikes loosing and is a great team player," said Ferreira.  "Joao has a "big heart" when it comes to supporting his teammates as well."
