Keeping with MVA tradition, the Eagles open up their preseason with the Purple and Gold practice scrimmage on November 19. This is an action-packed intrasquad scrimmage that showcases the talent of the varsity team giving the fans an insight of the upcoming season. The Purple and Gold scrimmage also represents the MVA Basketball Buddies program which provides the lower school students opportunities to interact and work with the varsity high school players on projects both on and off the court. After the contest, the lower school students that attend the game will have the chance to take pictures and receive autographs from the varsity players.
Ending the preseason games will be competitive matchups against North Florida Educational Institute and Mater Academy. Under Boyle, the Eagles have never lost a preseason game and look to continue their dominance on November 22 and 23.
Heading into the Thanksgiving break, the Eagles will compete in one of the most exciting high school basketball showcases in the nation, the Thanksgiving Hoopfest. This will be the first time the Eagles will compete in this two-day tournament which will consist of the top 36 nationally ranked teams in the nation with a projected audience of over 5,000 people. On Friday, November 29, the Eagles will face 2018-2019 6A Texas State Championship Runners Up Duncanville High School and on Saturday they will compete against another top state-ranked team out of Texas, Yates High School.
The Eagles will head back home and host four consecutive games at the Nest from December 6-12. The matchups will be against some of the top teams in the state of Florida including Lakewood High School, who is coming off a 27-4 winning record last season, and also against New Hope Christian Academy.
