CBD Athlete Anwar Gill Commits to La Salle University

Montverde Academy's Center for Basketball Development (CBD) postgraduate athlete Anwar Gill announced his commitment to La Salle University on Sunday, October 6. This marks the first CBD college commitment of the 2019-2020 school year and will add to the 40 plus commitments since its inception in 2012.

"When I went on my official visit there [La Salle], I appreciated the family environment and it reminded me of here [Montverde Academy]," said Gill. "The coaches and players were inviting and I felt that this was the best opportunity I had to compete at the highest level and bring winning back to an elite basketball program."

Listed at 6' 4'', 185 pounds, Gill is a tremendous all-around basketball player that can defend, shoot from the perimeter, pass efficiently, and rebound. In an analysis created by 247 Sports, Anwar is seen as a player who utilizes his very long wingspan, timing, and athleticism to snatch rebounds, reject shots in the paint or perimeter, get steals, and make deflections. He performs all of the intangibles and delivers clutch plays on both sides of the ball. To top it all of, Anwar takes great value in being a great teammate.

In the summer of 2018, Gill averaged 18 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists per game leading DCP Pemeier in the UAA Circuit 15-1 and ranked in the top 5 teams in the nation according to 247sports.com. He also converted over 58% of his field goals while playing in UAA and did not shoot under 50% in any of his games. He was awarded to the First Team All-Southern Jam Fest and was one of the top players in the UAA sessions in Atlanta and Indianapolis. This past summer, Gill competed for Gonzaga College High School and led the team to their Washington Catholic Athletic Conference (WCAC) Championship victory at American University.

"Anwar is a multi-dimensional guard that will be a great addition to La Salle University," said MVA Associate Head Basketball Coach Rae Miller. "He is a hard-working individual who loves the game and will take their program to the next level."

Now Gill will look to compete for the Montverde Academy CBD National team and lead them to a National Championship title of their own.
