For the first time in Montverde Academy history, the boys and girls swim team both placed first overall to win the FHSAA 2A Regional Championship meet at the YMCA Rosen Academy on October 22. The Eagles also had 16 athletes qualify to the State Championship meet setting a school record for most athletes qualifying to a state meet.

In the boys 200m medley relay consisting of Brennan Muramatsu, Arthur Horr, Pedro Helou, and Nicholas Cecchi, the Eagles won first place along with the boys 200m freestyle team consisting of Horr, Helou, and Caio Cavarsan, and Guido Arcaro Neto. Finishing with a near championship performance, the boys 400m free relay team with Muramatsu, Cavarsan, Neto, and Cecchi placed second adding several points to MVA's total regional score. All members automatically qualified to the State meet.
Individually, Muramatsu placed first in the 100m backstroke with a time of 52.34 improving from last week's performance of 54.20. Pedro Helou put on great performances in the 50m free with a time of 21.51 and the 100m fly 51.16 earning first place in both events. Freshman Nicholas Cecchi finished with a strong performance in the 200 IM with a final time of 2:02.25 marking the first time he qualified to a state meet.
Representing the girls, the 200m free relay team consisting of Alexa Cecchi, Giulliana Perez, Jeslanie Perez, and Tatiana Brandt Oliveira placed first overall. The 200m medley relay team with Jaiden Muramatsu, Brianna Monahan, Emily Wissinger, and Cecchi also won first place in a highly competitive race.
Individually, Cecchi placed first in the 100m freestyle with a time of 54.33 and also won first in the 50m free with a time of 24.93. Perez took second place in the 500m free with a time of 5:17.08. Former MVA soccer athlete Tatiana Brandt-Oliveira finished second in the 50m free with a 25.25 (behind Cecchi).
"The big win came as a result of all the hard work our swimmers put in daily," said Head Swim Coach Guilherme Ferreira. "Our next challenge is the State Championship and our Eagles are excited to finish their season strong."
The Montverde Academy Eagles will compete this Friday, November 8 at the State Championship at Sailfish Water Park in Stuart, FL.
