2019 National Signing Day

On Wednesday, February 5, 2019, the stage was set at Montverde Academy's Center for Sportsmanship and Wellness where 13 MVA student-athletes signed National Letters of Intent to play their sport at the collegiate level.

From the MVA girls soccer team, Sabrina Botran, goalkeeper born in Guatemala, committed to Palm Beach Atlantic University and Kalena Iwashita, mid-fielder born in Japan, committed to ASA College of Miami.

"In these three years I have been here in the U.S. and at Montverde Academy, I have learned that diversity means a lot to me," said Iwashita. "I am happy that ASA values diversity and I feel that I am ready to play soccer at the next level because of the MVA team here."

Representing the Soccer Institute at Montverde Academy (SIMA), Bernardo Gracindo, center back born in Brazil, committed to Northeastern University and Weston King, goalkeeper from the USA, committed to the University of Louisville. Also from the MVA Soccer Academy is mid-fielder Bryan Moreira, a native from Ecuador, who committed to the University of Indianapolis.

"Hard work pays off and Montverde really prepared me to compete to the best of my abilities," said King. "I feel that the transition to the next level will be smoother because of all the preparation I have had in the past years."

From the BGGA/Golf program, Marc De Julio (USA) committed to the University of Lynchburg and Tyden Wilson (USA) committed to Queens University of Charlotte. Also from BGGA, Tianyu "Jeffery" Wu, born in China, signed with Washington State University, Ryan Ren (China) signed with Salem State University, and Pontus Torgner, born in Sweden, signed with Eastern Florida State College.

"This is a huge moment for me, one I will never forget," said Wu. "MVA had prepared me with tough schedules, great training, and most importantly challenging academics."

Representing the softball team, Claire Prudhomme (USA) signed with The Catholic University of America.

"I was looking forward to this moment ever since middle school," said Prudhomme. "MVA and the softball team helped me see my future more clearly and provided everything I needed in order to be successful."

From the volleyball team, volleyball standout Jojo Brown, born in Brazil, signed with Dartmouth College, an Ivy League school.

"It feels that everything I worked hard for led up to this moment," said Brown. "All the long traveling, late night practices, and games were all worth it."

Representing the swim team, Annabella Boardman (USA) signed with Swarthmore College.

"I am really excited about not only the swimming opportunities at Swarthmore but the academic ones," said Boardman. "My high school season at MVA was great because of the mentorship and coaching I received from coach Gui and now I feel I am ready for the next chapter of my life."

As the MVA student-athletes continue to further their academics and athletics, the Montverde Academy community congratulates all athletes who have signed with their respective colleges and look forward to preparing many more to compete at the next level.
