For the first time in Montverde Academy history, three athletes on the MVA varsity basketball team were named to the 2020 McDonald's All American Team and will compete at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas on April, 1 at 6:00 p.m.
Seniors Scottie Barnes, Cade Cunningham, and Day'Ron Sharpe were selected among some of the nation's best high school players for the 2019-2020 season. MVA is also the only team on the list to have three players from their respective rosters.
Listed as the No. 1 player on the USA TODAY Chosen 25 rankings, Cunningham is currently rated by 247Sports and Rivals as the best guard in the country and is currently leading the No. 1 team in the nation with an undefeated record.
Scotties Barnes is listed as the No. 3 small forward in the nation by the 247Sports.com and is a potential first-round pick in the 2021 NBA Draft according to 247Sports analysts. Along with Cunnigham, Barnes has also been highly successful and decorated in the USA Basketball program as he helped Team USA win gold in the 2019 FIBA U19 World Cup.
Day'Ron Sharpe is a five-star athlete and is currently ranked as the No.3 center in the senior class. Averaging nearly a double-double for the Eagles, Sharpe is projected as a first-round NBA draft pick in 2021.
"This is a tremendous accomplishment for the program and for the players. They are great teammates and even greater individuals that truly deserve this recognition," said Head Coach Kevin Boyle. "We have some players that could potentially be picked in the first round of the 2021 NBA Draft and compete with current MVA alumni in the NBA."
