Riley Novack was the top overall finisher, finishing first of 96 runners (16:07.48) to help the boys' cross country team to a second place finish at the 2022 Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) district championship meet on Saturday morning. Meanwhile, behind a third place overall finish of 65 runners by Carly McNatt (19:30.27), the girls' cross country team finished second of seven school at the district championship contested at Wickham Park in Melbourne on a beautiful 62 degree morning.
On the boys' side, Novack won his second race in a row. After capturing gold at the Citrus League championship on October 12, Novack struck gold again, finishing 30 seconds ahead of his closest competitor. Meanwhile, fellow teammate Will Moss was the second best finisher for the Eagles, while finishing in ninth overall (17:09.40). Colton Cardwell was the third Eagle finisher and 12th overall (17:14.36), while Anthony Picciano was fourth for MVA and 27th overall (17:54.91). Cooper Shaban rounded out the top five for the Eagles by finishing 33rd overall (18:08.73).
Also competing for the Eagles included Salvatore Scelfo who finished 55th overall (19:06.83) and Laven Parker who was 77th overall (21:00.13).
On the girls' side, McNatt was the MVA top finisher for the fourth time this season, and it was the second time she earned a top three finish this season (Zak Lukas Invitational on 9/1). After McNatt, Michelle Smith was the next Eagle to finish, while finishing seventh overall (20:14.68). Lyla McMillen was third for the Eagles and 11th overall (21:34.32), while Natalie Nesmith was fourth for MVA and 14th in the race (21:55.03). Isabella Kissler rounded out the scoring five with a 34th place finish (23:13.92).
Also competing for the Eagles included Leigh Anna Waters who was 40th overall (24:23.84) and Shivani Patel who was 44th overall (24:42.91).
On the boys' side, the Eagles scored 82 points, while Lake Highland Prep won the event with 44 points. Bishop Moore won the girls' event with 31 points, while MVA scored 68.
