Boys Cross Country

Boys Finish Seventh, Girls Fifteenth at State Championship Meet

The Montverde Academy boys' and girls' cross country teams competed in the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) state championship meet on Saturday morning, and the boys finished seventh of 32 teams, while the girls finished fifteenth of 32 teams in their race at Apalachee State Park in Tallahassee.

On the boys' side, the Eagles finished seventh with 252 points, while Bolles High School finished first with 50 points.

Citrus League, District and Regional champion Riley Novack was the Eagles top finisher. He finished third overall of 233 runners, just six seconds behind the first place finisher in the five kilometer race (15:31.7). Fellow teammate Colton Cardwell was second amongst the Eagles and 38th overall (17:05.7), while Will Moss was third for MVA and 82nd overall finisher (17:23.9). Cooper Shaban was the fourth Eagle to finish and 86th overall (17:43.9), while Anthony Picciano rounded out the scoring five for MVA while finishing 88th (17:45.5).

Salvatore Scelfo also competed and finished 168th overall (18:54.7), while Laven Parker was 213th overall (20:06.4).

On the girls' side, the Eagles finished fifteenth with 446 points, while Bolles High School won the event with 56 points.

Michelle Smith was the top finisher for the Eagles, and she finished 22nd overall of 233 runners (19:23.5). Meanwhile, Carly McNatt was second for the Eagles and 36th overall (19:44.9), while Lyla McMillen was third best for MVA while finishing in 112th overall (21:29.6). Natalie Nesmith finished fourth for the Eagles and 132nd overall (21:54.8), while Isabella Kissler rounded out the scoring five for MVA by finishing 179th overall (22:47.4).

Leigh Anna Waters also competed and finished 189th overall (23:01.8), while Shivani Patel finished 220th overall (24:55.5).
