Vanessa Manoil and Lola Ressler each scored a first half goal, and the Eagles outshot the opponents 32-2 overall as the Montverde Academy girls' soccer team opened its 2022-23 season with a 2-0 win over McKeel Academy at the Athletic Complex on Tuesday evening.

Manoil found the back of the net ten and a half minutes into the game after scoring off a rebound off of the McKeel Academy goalkeeper who saved the initial shot by Gracie Sodermark. Ressler's goal came with just over seventeen minutes to go in the opening half to put the Eagles up a pair.

The Eagles outshot the guests by 30 shots and most of the game saw them in the McKeel Academy defensive end.

Genesis Perez Watson made one save on the evening as the Eagles improve to 1-0 this season.

Tuesday night was the first game for the Eagles competing in the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) state series since the 2018-19 season when they won the state championship.

Earlier in the evening, the junior varsity team played to a 0-0 tie against McKeel Academy's JV team.

Montverde Academy is back in action on Monday, November 14 for a game at Windermere High School at 7:30 pm. Junior varsity will play first at 6:00 pm.
