Montverde, Fla.— Montverde Academy is set to host its annual Montverde Academy Invitational Softball Tournament (MAIST) this weekend as the Eagles welcome in five elite high school softball teams from different parts of the state of Florida. The tournament is being held Thursday March 24, through Saturday March 26 at the Montverde Academy softball field.
The Eagles will be hosting highly competitive high school softball programs including The Episcopal School (Jacksonville), Fort Myers High School, Inspiration Academy (Bradenton), Middleburg High School and Oakleaf High School (Orange Park).
The tournament is set to start with a game on Thursday evening when the Eagles take on Inspiration Academy at 7:00 pm. The games commence on Friday with four games on the slate with start times at 12:00 pm, 2:30 pm, 5:00 pm and 7:30 pm. The Eagles will play in the 7:30 pm game against The Episcopal School on Friday. Saturday's games are set for 11:00 am, 1:30 pm, 4:00 pm and 6:30 pm. MVA will play in the 6:30 pm game against Fort Myers High School. The tournament will close with an awards presentation following the conclusion of the final game.
"We're excited to host our annual tournament this year," MVA head coach Caitlin Griffis said. "We have good competition coming and look forward to competing against schools from other regions in Florida."
The invitational will feature several outstanding players who have already committed to play softball at the collegiate level, including all four MVA seniors, including Makayla Navarro (FIU), Paris Ford (St. Thomas University), Faith Fournier (Keiser University) and Yani Guzman (FAU). Other prestigious Universities players in this tournament have already committed to include Clemson, Purdue, Florida A&M and Georgia Southwestern.
The Eagles enter play with a 9-1 overall record and 3-0 record in Citrus League play. They have outscored opponents 86-21 this season, and MVA enters the tournament with a team batting average of .359 and a team earned run average of 0.57.
Tickets for the event are $10.00 per day and parking is free.
