Montverde, Fla.— Montverde Academy swimmer Emily Santos earned three gold medals recently after finishing first place in the 50 meter breaststroke, 100 meter breaststroke and 200 meter breaststroke at the Confederacion Centroamericana y Del Caribe de Aficionados a la Natacion (Central American and Caribbean Swimming Championships) in Barbados earlier in July.
Representing her native country Panama, Santos won the 50 meter breaststroke in 32.69, the 100 meter breaststroke in 1:11.56 and the 200 meter breaststroke in 2:37.52. Her win in the 50 meter breaststroke broke a meet record that stood for 17 years. It was a personal best for Santos and she set a Panama national record as well.
This accomplishment is just the latest of many she has already earned. Earlier this summer, Santos competed at the Bolivarian Games in Valledupar, Colombia where she earned two silver medals. Last summer she competed in the Olympics Games in Tokyo, Japan and last fall she competed in the Pan American Games in Cali, Colombia.
