Montverde, Fla. (September 4, 2023)—Montverde Academy Department of Athletics has announced the girls' swim team member Regina Torres has been named the Montverde Academy Student-Athlete of the Week for the week ending September 3.
Torres had an overwhelmingly great performance during Montverde Academy girls' swim teams' season opening event, the MVA Quad Meet. In that meet, Torres was a part of two relay teams that won and won a pair of individual races. In those four events, not only did she and her teammates win, but all four wins set new pool records at the MVA Aquatics Center.
As an individual, Torres won the 200 meter individual medley in 2:25.66 and the 100 meter backstroke in 1:03.06. In the 200 meter medley relay, she teamed with Emily Santos, Layla Busby and Ivanka Bukele for the win in 2:01.93. In the 400 meter free relay, her along with teammates Alejandra Ordonez, Brianna Monahan and Anabella Munoz earned the win in record time 4:05.28
A senior, Torres is a native of Merida Yucatan, Mexico. In addition to her accomplishment as a student-athlete, Torres is a Model United Nations club member as well as Spanish and Latin Heritage Club President and Eagle Ambassador. She has made a verbally committed to continue her swimming career at the collegiate level at the University of Houston next fall.
Torres and the rest of the MVA girls' swim team returns to the pool this Wednesday for a tri-meet at Winter Park High School, where the Eagles will compete with Winter Park and West Orange High School.
