Up 14-11 late in the first quarter, Montverde Academy went on a sweeping 27-0 which lasted into the final minute of the second quarter, giving its opponent way too deep of a hole to climb out of as the Eagles defeated Utah Prep 74-60 on day three of Hoophall in Springfield Mass on Sunday evening.
The 27-0 run allowed the Eagles to take a 41-11 lead with just over a minute to go before halftime, before settling with a 41-15 lead at the break.
Utah Prep, the nationally number five ranked team in the nation, edged closer in the second half, cutting its deficit to as little as 10 in the fourth quarter. But clutch baskets by the Eagles allowed MVA to keep the opposition within arms length distance the rest of the way.
CJ Ingram led the way for MVA. He shot a perfect 6-for-6 from the field and had a team-high 16 points. Trent Sisley added 15 points and eight rebounds of his own in the win. Kayden Allen came off the bench and supplied 12 points, and Hudson Greer added 10 in the win. Dante Allen had eight points and a game-high 12 rebounds.
The Eagles are now 13-2 on the season and winners of five in a row.
MVA is back on the court on Monday for a game against AZ Compass at the Hoophall Classic at 3:00 pm.
