The Montverde Academy girls weightlifting team earned another impressive pair of road victory on Wednesday afternoon, defeating Foundation Academy in both Olympic and traditional competition. The Eagles claimed a narrow 42–39 win in the Olympic (snatch + clean & jerk) format and earned a close 41–40 triumph in the traditional (bench press + clean & jerk) division.
MVA secured the sweep behind several key individual performances. In the unlimited division, Gabby Joseph once again delivered a dominant showing, posting a 275 total in Olympic and 295 in traditional to earn maximum points for the Eagles. Cali Flowers added another strong win at 199 pounds, recording a 270 Olympic total and 275 in traditional.
At 183 pounds, Madison Casaburi and Colby Reish combined for major momentum, with Casaburi taking first in both formats and Reish adding crucial runner-up points. Nicole Sanchez and Mirea Thederahn provided valuable scoring in the 169 class, helping push the Eagles ahead in both divisions.
Angely Acevedo Marquez also came through with a standout effort at 119 pounds, sweeping her weight class with totals of 145 (Olympic) and 155 (traditional). Sanvhi Gandhi added an Olympic victory at 101 pounds as well.
The Eagles' next match is Thursday, November 20 for the Buffalo Invitational at The Villages at 12:00 pm.
