Swim Teams Ready for FHSAA State Championship Showdown

The Montverde Academy boys and girls swim teams are preparing to make a splash at the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) state championship meet this Saturday in Ocala, Florida, capping off a remarkable season for both programs.

Both teams enter the state meet on the heels of dominant performances at districts and regionals. At the FHSAA Class 1A District Championships in Clermont on October 21, the boys swept all 11 events while the girls won 10 of 11, continuing a long tradition of excellence. The victories marked the seventh straight district championship for the boys and the seventh in nine years for the girls.

The Eagles carried that momentum to the regional championships on October 28 at Indian River State College in Fort Pierce, where both teams again captured first-place finishes. The girls secured their sixth regional title in seven years, while the boys earned their fourth consecutive championship. Relays were a highlight, with the girls winning the 200 medley, 200 freestyle, and 400 freestyle relays, and the boys taking the 200 and 400 freestyle relays as well as the 200 medley relay.

Standout performers for the girls this season have been Maria Castro (200 IM, 500 freestyle), Alejandra Ordonez (100 and 200 freestyle) and Stella Belmore (100 backstroke). On the boys' side, Jayden Chan (50 and 100 freestyle), Cobi Wu (100 breaststroke), and Heitor Tinoco (50 freestyle) have performed impressively. Many of the relay teams and individual swimmers also achieved qualifying times for National Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association (NISCA) All-America status, highlighting the depth and talent of the program.

Earlier in the season, Montverde Academy made a strong statement at the Florida Swim Pool Association (FSPA) Invitational in Ocala, finishing second overall while collecting 12 individual and relay victories combined. Notably, the boys' 200-yard freestyle relay earned All-America honors with a time of 1:23.94.

As the Eagles prepare for the state meet, both teams look to build on an exceptional year and continue their tradition of excellence. With multiple individual champions, All-American performances, and strong relay squads, Montverde Academy is poised to make a major impact on the state's stage.
