Montverde, Fla. (January 27, 2026) – Montverde Academy girls weightlifting team member Cali Flowers has been named the Montverde Academy Student-Athlete of the Week for the week ending January 25, following a historic performance at the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) District Championship.
Flowers delivered a dominant showing at the district meet, earning first place in the 199-pound weight class in both disciplines of competition — Olympic and Traditional. In Olympic lifting (snatch + clean & jerk), Flowers totaled 280 pounds, lifting 130 pounds in the snatch and a personal-best 150 pounds in the clean & jerk. She also claimed first place in the Traditional discipline (bench press + clean & jerk), finishing with a total of 285 pounds after lifting 135 pounds in the bench press adding to her 150-pound clean & jerk.
Her 150-pound clean & jerk not only marked a personal best, but also set a new program record as the heaviest lift in Montverde Academy girls weightlifting history.
With her district championship victory, Flowers qualified for the FHSAA Regional Championship meet, scheduled for Saturday, January 31.
A tenth-grade student, Flowers continues to excel both academically and athletically. Her favorite class is Algebra II, and she says she loves Montverde Academy for its quiet environment, which allows her to stay focused and motivated. Looking ahead, Flowers hopes to pursue a career as a physical therapist.
In addition to her success on the weightlifting platform, Flowers is also a member of Montverde Academy's nationally ranked softball team, further showcasing her versatility as a multi-sport student-athlete.
**The Montverde Academy Student-Athlete of the Week award is sponsored by the 2025-26 Montverde Academy Booster Club.
