The Montverde Academy girls' swim team is set to compete in the 2022 Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) district championship on October 25 in hopes to dominate their opponents.
During the regular season, MVA won the majority of their meets. At the season opening meet, the Trinity Prep Quad Meet on September 9, MVA defeated the hosts 193-90, Lake Highland Prep 201-93 and the Episcopal School 192-96. The girls amassed 574 points, 213 points higher than second-place Lake Highland Prep, giving the girls first place out of six teams.
At the Citrus League championship meet, the team combined for nine wins in the eleven races, and the Eagles finished first of six teams to win the championship. In the 200 yard medley relay, Regina Torres, Emily Santos, Seannia Norville-Smith and Mariana Bustamante, won with a time of 1:49.06. In the 200 yard freestyle, Biranna Monahan was victorious with a time of 2:00.30. Regina Torres was the winner of the 200 yard individual medley with a time of 2:09.92. In the 50 yard freestyle, Seannia Norville-Smith was able to pull away with the win (26.66), following with Zoe Xiao winning the 100 yard freestyle (55.46). Then in the 200 yard free relay, Brianna Monahan, Alejandra Ordonez, Emily Santos and Zoe Xiao teamed up to win with an exceptional finishing time of 1:42.77. In the 100 yard backstroke, Regina Torres earned the victory (57.77), and in the 100 yard breaststroke, Emily Santos was able to pull away with a winning timing of 1:07.12. Finally, in the 400 yard free relay, it was Regina Torres, Brianna Monahan, Alejandra Ordonez and Zoe Xiao teaming up for the win finishing with a time of 3:39.41.
If the Eagles put forth a good showing on Tuesday, they'll compete in the regional meet on November 2 (5:30 PM), and the state championship on November 11 (9:30 AM) in Stuart.
