Montverde, Fla. (September 26, 2023)—Montverde Academy Department of Athletics has announced that girls' cross country team member Lyla McMillen has been named the Montverde Academy Student-Athlete of the Week for the week ending September 24.
McMillen, for the second consecutive meet, was Montverde Academy's top finisher after being the first Eagle to fly across the finish line at the Tohopekalgia Invitational at Austin Tindall Park in Kissimmee this past Saturday. She finished 20th overall of 152 runners in 20:47, helping MVA to a 12th place finish.
An eighth grader, McMillen becomes the first Montverde Academy middle school student-athlete to win the weekly award. A natural leader, she strives to live up to the EAGLES core values (Excellence, Accountability, Greatness, Leadership, Education and Sportsmanship). She also hopes to break the twenty minute barrier at a future invitational. McMillen said what she loves most about being a student at MVA is the diverse school community.
McMillen and the Eagles are back in action on Saturday, September 30 for the Florida State Invitational Pre-State in Tallahassee.
