From Friday, February 9, through Sunday, February 11, the Montverde Academy Tennis (MAT) program hosted the Montverde Academy Universal Tennis Rating event at the MVA Tennis Courts on campus.
Despite the early February date, the weather was summerlike, and a great atmosphere with plenty of supporters at the event all weekend.
There were 41 tennis players in attendance, and about half of them were from the MAT. The competition was divided into three stages: coed draw, girls open, and men's open.
In the men's open category, the championship came down to two MVA stars as David Krnavek took on fellow academy member Felipe Kimura, with Krnavek pulling out the victory. After losing 1-6 in the first set, he came back to win the second set 6-4, before winning the tie breaking set 10-6.
"The environment was awesome, my friends were cheering for me and supporting me in the highs and lows of all 4 matches," Kimora said after the match.
Additionally, MAT had Joao Pedro Fortes who finished in the runner-up spot in the coed category.
MAT is working on putting together another showcase event later this semester.
