Montverde Academy girls weightlifting fell to The First Academy in both the Olympic and Traditional divisions in its season opening meet on Wednesday afternoon at The Nest. MVA fell 54-34 in the Olympic discipline and 53-34 in the Traditional discipline.
Leading the way for Montverde Academy was Cali Flowers, who posted one of the top totals of the meet, lifting 110 pounds in the snatch and 140 in the clean and jerk for a 250 Olympic total and a 265 Traditional total in the 199 pound weight class Gabby Joseph, in the unlimited weight class, also impressed with a 110 snatch and 150 clean and jerk to total 260 Olympic and 270 Traditional, earning one of MVA's top marks.
Other standouts included Mya Tyson in the 183 pound weight class, who finished with a 155 Olympic total and 185 Traditional, and Isabella Parra, in the 139 pound weight class, who went 70 in the snatch and 95 in the clean and jerk for a 165 Olympic total and 165 Traditional. Edielys Negron and Angely Acevedo Marquez, in the 119 pound class, both reached the 100-pound mark in their lifts, while Sanvhi Gandhi had  solid scores in the 101 pound weight division with a 40 pound snatch, and a 55 pound clean & jerk.
The Eagles also had several exhibition lifters show progress, including Gabby Moise, Krisha Patel, and Elena Friedman, who all performed well in their respective classes.
