MONTVERDE, Fla. (September 1, 2026) — With her team's back against the wall and no margin for error, Janiyah Miller delivered.
Miller of the girls volleyball team has been named the MVA Student-Athlete of the Week for the week ending August 30, 2026, following a clutch performance that helped the Eagles complete a dramatic four-set victory over George Jenkins High School on Friday evening.
Leading the match two sets to one, the Eagles found themselves in a deep hole in the fourth set. MVA fell behind 15-1 and, despite battling its way back into contention, the Eagles still faced set point trailing 24-17.
Then Miller stepped to the service line.
With George Jenkins needing just one point to force a fifth and deciding set, Miller delivered nine consecutive serves with zero margin for error. The Eagles scored nine straight points during the run, stunning George Jenkins with a 26-24 victory to close out the match, 3-1.
Miller finished the victory with eight service aces, while MVA scored a total of 17 points with the senior at the service line. She also contributed across the court with two kills, three assists and five digs.
Through three matches this season, Miller has recorded 11 kills, four assists, six blocks, 10 service aces and nine digs while helping MVA to a 2-1 start.
Now in her third season with the Eagles, Miller has been a key contributor to one of the area's most successful girls volleyball programs over the past two years. During her first two seasons at MVA, she appeared in 36 matches and 75 sets, totaling 63 kills, 44 blocks and 17 digs.
During that span, Miller played a role in the Eagles capturing back-to-back FHSAA district championships and advance to the regional championship the past two seasons.
Miller and the Eagles return to the court Tuesday evening when they host Winter Park High School. The junior varsity match is scheduled for 4:30 p.m., followed by the varsity match at 6 p.m.
