The Montverde Academy boys' and girls' cross country teams competed for the first time as a until since September 1 and ran against stellar runners as the boys finished 13th of 15 schools, while the girls finished 14th of 16 at the Katie Caples Invitational hosted by Bishop Kenny High School on Saturday afternoon.
On the boys' side Colton Cardwell was the first finisher for MVA and he was 33rd overall of 140 runners in the five kilometer race (17:15). Meanwhile Will Moss was 47th overall and second for the Eagles (17:26). He was one of five middle school students in the race and was the top finisher amongst them.
Cooper Shaban was 76th overall and third for MVA (18:07). Anthony Picciano finished 98th overall and was fourth for the Eagles (18:29). Salvatore Scelfo, who was the lone seventh grader to compete in the high school race, rounded out MVA's top-five. He finished 121st overall (19:38).
Other competitors for MVA were Laven Parker (21:06), Jackson Balls (21:08), Theran Snyder, Leonard Polcaro and Nathan Diaz.
Additionally, Xander Cunningham competed in the junior varsity race and finished 102nd out of 260 runners (21:54).
On the girls' side of things, Carly McNatt finished 32nd out of 138 and was the top finisher for the Eagles (20:02), while Michelle Smith finished in 61st place while being the second finisher for MVA (21:11). Lyla McMillen, the lone seventh grader to compete, held her own with an 80th place finish and top three Eagle (21:57). Natalie Nesmith finished 95th overall and fourth for MVA (22:25), while Isabella Kissler rounded out the Eagles' top-five with a 112th place overall finish (23:28).
Also competing for MVA was Leigh Anna Waters (25:01), Shivani Patel (25:06) and Stellie Bobilin.
