MONTVERDE, Fla. (January 13, 2026) — Derek "Beau" Daniels has been named the Montverde Academy Student-Athlete of the Week for the week ending January 11, 2026, following outstanding all-around performances that helped the No. 13 nationally ranked Montverde Academy boys basketball team earn a pair of impressive home victories last week.
Daniels played a pivotal role in wins over two highly regarded opponents, which included a 83-62 triumph over No. 21 ranked IMG Academy on Wednesday and a 59-45 victory over previously ranked The Villages Charter on Friday.
Daniels finished with 16 points, five rebounds, and two blocked shots, providing a strong interior presence on both ends of the floor in the win over IMG Academy. He followed up that performance with 14 points, eight rebounds, and five blocked shots against The Villages Charter, anchoring a dominant defensive effort.
Daniels' defensive impact was especially evident in Friday's win, as Montverde Academy limited The Villages Charter to just 45 points — the fewest points allowed by the Eagles in a game this season.
Through the first 11 games this season, Daniels is averaging 9.1 points and 5.7 rebounds per game, while leading the Eagles in blocked shots at 2.0 per contest. His rim protection and defensive awareness have been key components of MVA's success
MVA is currently 7-4 on the season and returns to action on Friday at 6:00 p.m. against Oak Hill Academy on day one of the Hoophall Classic in Springfield, Massachusetts.
