Montverde, Fla. (February 24, 2026) – When the lights were brightest and a state championship was on the line, Lola Rey delivered in unforgettable fashion. The girls soccer player has been named Montverde Academy Student-Athlete of the Week after a spectacular performance that helped lead the Eagles to the 2025-26 FHSAA Class 3A State Championship.
Rey was unstoppable during the state finals run. In the state semifinal matchup she erupted for a hat trick, scoring the first three goals in Montverde Academy's dominant 5-0 victory over Pensacola Catholic and setting the tone for the Eagles' championship push.
Two days later, Rey once again rose to the moment, scoring the game-winning goal in Montverde Academy's 2-0 win over Cardinal Gibbons in the state championship game. Her goal was a 23-yard bullet from just outside the box, a powerful strike that tucked just inside the lower-left corner of the net, igniting the Eagles and putting Montverde Academy on the path to another title. Moments later, she assisted on the second goal to seal the championship and cap an incredible week.
Rey entered the state finals already in outstanding form. Last week she scored both goals in Montverde Academy's 2-0 regional semifinal victory over Calvary Christian on February 9 and added two more goals in the Eagles' 4-0 regional championship win over Lake Highland Prep on February 13. Her red-hot stretch helped propel Montverde Academy through the postseason and into the history books.
For the season, Rey led the Eagles with 27 goals, helping the girls soccer team to an outstanding 21-1-1 record while capturing the program's third state championship in four years. Already one of the program's most accomplished players, Rey has scored 44 career varsity goals since being promoted to the varsity roster as an eighth grader in the 2022-23 season.
An 11th-grade student, Rey appreciates Montverde Academy for its diverse campus environment and the opportunity to learn about cultures from around the world. She aspires to one day play soccer professionally and is also considering future careers as a physical therapist or graphic designer.
Rey credits the Montverde Academy girls soccer coaching staff for constantly pushing her to improve and helping her develop into the player she is today.
